Samuel P. Taylor Trip

We're all getting really excited to go to Samuel P. Taylor on Tuesday! Thanks so much to Genevieve for coordinating drivers (and more) and to all of you for volunteering. It's seriously going to be a blast. The students proposed this trip during a class meeting and since then, have planned the activities for the day. They were able to compromise, go with the flow of the group, and still advocate for their important needs in order to reach a consensus.  They earned this!

We'll be doing lots of adventuring by bike and by foot. We'll play some great team-building games, work together to safely build a fire, cook lunch, build forts utilizing our newly acquired knot-tying skills, listen to wilderness adventure stories, and generally get excited for our overnight camping trip with the whole school. Sound fun? Yeah it does! :)

As always, please be on time on Tuesday so we can enjoy as much of the day as possible in the redwoods.

The students need to bring:
a bike!
a helmet
a re-useable plate, fork, and a full water bottle (we'll supply a snack and lunch that works for everyone's health needs)
they should be wearing solid, close-toed shoes and clothes that are good for running around and getting nice and dirty
It can be chilly down there, so bring something cozy and warm to wear

Let me know if you have any questions.
Lovelovelove.

Blogger Sami!

Hi!! I am the blogger this week! (Happy Passover and Easter!)  Guess what, we finished the teamwork puzzleJJJ!!!!!!!! Today at core we are going to celebrate by having a party! To celebrate we watched a little bit of nyan cat (one of the most annoying shows on earth)! It was pretty funny!
Speaking of celebrating, on Wednesday we celebrated Skyler’s  birthday! We all shared something we like about him. He shared something from his past (tomas the tank engine toy), something from his present (a remote control car he made from scratch) and something for his future (pictures of what he wants to be when he grows up either an electrition or a model rail road builder)! We had lemonade and jolly ranchers for a treat!
We are making a gold rush newspaper called The River Rush Gazette everyone is going to put an article in. For practice Alex is filming and Devin is the anchor then we do our article like reporters. Even though they will be written it is still fun to act like reporters. Some people even interviewed their friends.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY ME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Blogger- Hugo!
(March 25-29)

Welcome one and all to Hugo’s magnificent blog.
Tuesday night we all went back to school. There was an open house.
We shared our pioneer journals. We shared a lot more stuff.
This morning we wrote about stuff we don’t like to tell that much and wish we could and not be scared.
Some of us shared.

Practice Makes Perfect!

Almost done with our puzzle of  team work!

(March 18-22)

On Tuesday Hugo, Skyler, Max, Mila, Alex, and I practiced reading an entry from our pioneer journals. Every Tuesday and Thursday we practice mindfulness with a woman named Rebekkah. On Tuesday before mindfulness (since we are studying the Gold Rush) we staked a “claim” (which was really made out of masking tape). The “claim” was 10 feet by 10 feet which is the size a real Gold Rush claim (a riverside claim, a claim that wasn’t by the river was around 50 feet by 50 feet). On one of our bulletin boards we made a simulation of a Gold Rush site off of the Yuba River! Each person “staked” a claim and we’re going to do a Social Studies project on it.

For read aloud, we’re reading By the Great Horn Spoon which is about the gold rush. Devin says that parents can borrow a copy of the book if they want to read along. She has extra copies in the classroom if you want one. On Thursday we drew leaves and wrote Haikus that were inspired by the art.
