(March 18-22)
On Tuesday Hugo, Skyler, Max, Mila, Alex, and I practiced
reading an entry from our pioneer journals. Every Tuesday and Thursday we
practice mindfulness with a woman named Rebekkah. On Tuesday before mindfulness
(since we are studying the Gold Rush)
we staked a “claim” (which was really made out of masking tape). The “claim”
was 10 feet by 10 feet which is the size a real Gold Rush claim (a riverside
claim, a claim that wasn’t by the river was around 50 feet by 50 feet). On one of our
bulletin boards we made a simulation of a Gold Rush site off of the Yuba River! Each person “staked”
a claim and we’re going to do a Social Studies project on it.
For read aloud, we’re reading By the Great Horn Spoon
which is about the gold rush. Devin says that parents can borrow a copy of the
book if they want to read along. She has extra copies in the classroom if you
want one. On Thursday we drew leaves and wrote Haikus that were inspired by the
art.
